Danish design policy: bottom-up!

Check out www.policydesignthinking.com!

It is a community that discusses the future Danish design policy, and is an initiative of the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority.
Practicing what the design community has been preaching for years: open innovation! Everybody, but preferably professionals in this area, can bring in topics and discuss these with each other.

Great initiative!
Every other Design Council or governmental body around Europe that influences design policy making should have a close watch on this ‘bottom-up policy-making experiment’ and eventually follow this Danish example.

Altough I am not a Danish citizen, I do feel the urge to share our thoughts. Simply because we do work closely together with quite a lot of Danish companies.
My first challenge to the Danish design policy makers is the following…

Please, don’t start talking about ‘design thinking’ before establishing good design management: first ensure good and mature design management in companies and within organisations!
Only than the leaders of companies will be ready to open up for incorporating design capabilities (= design thinking) in other than specific design tasks.
Read and react here

I am looking forward to a good discussion in the near future.
Hopefully the community is alive and kicking!

Hello Tim and the other readers,

Along the lines of the developments in Denmark, I think you should check out the SPIRE Centre at the University of Southern Denmark. A quite provoking and progressive approach to multidisciplinary user-centered design and innovation processes. There’s collaboration with industry and a wide range of disciplines involved in the centre…from design to theatre.

      Have a look.
      Cheers
      Mette

      Hi Mette,

Thanks for the tip. I checked it out and it indeed is a strong approach that is featured!

However, this is still a cooperation mainly method focused on companies.
In the case of http://www.policydesignthinking.com I was merely inspired by the way how to influence misty POLITICAL processes.

      Best,

      Tim
